The MC 15 TX is the new Comacchio drill rig for tunneling applications.
The MC 15 TX has been specifically developed to meet the requirements of ground consolidation and soil improvement operations in tunneling, where drilling ahead of the tunnel face is required to stabilize soil or rock masses and prevent ground subsidence during excavation.
The rig is equipped with a unique double slewing ring articulation system, a kinematic solution that enables a wide range of mast movements and orientations, making the machine particularly suitable for horizontal and sub-horizontal drilling. This capability is essential for tunneling applications such as forepoling, radial drilling, rock bolting, reverse arch consolidation, abutment reinforcement and jet grouting. At the same time, the articulation system has been designed to provide the flexibility required for conventional ground engineering applications, including micropiles and anchors installation, soil nailing, and drainage holes. Additional flexibility is provided by the modular mast design and the use of the Comacchio OMNI series rotary head, which is engineered to adapt easily to different rotary and rotary-percussion drilling technologies.
The MC 15 TX has been engineered with special attention to performance operational efficiency and reduced fuel consumption. The hydraulic system with load-sensing control is combined with electronic engine load management and a fan-drive cooling system to optimize performance and efficiency. An innovative optional “Dual Motor” system allows the diesel‑powered version to operate with a separate electric motor, ideal for reducing exhaust emissions in confined working environments such as tunnels.
Despite the wide range of positions and drilling angles available, the MC 15 TX remains a compact and easily transportable rig, allowing quick mobilization and efficient setup even in space-restricted job sites. For safer and easier operation in limited access conditions, the MC 15 TX is equipped as standard with the Comacchio radio-control system, which allows enabling the operator to manage control all machine functions from a single console.
